Alli!
Meet a sweet girl who traveled a long road before ending up in rescue. This is Alli, a darling Great Pyrenees that walked the streets alone before finding herself in the pound. Thankfully the employees at this shelter were very kind and took great care of her. In their effort to help her, they contacted us to see if we could take in a sweet, senior Great Pyrenees. We said yes without question, for the thought of a senior living the last days of her life in a pound was simply unbearable to think about...and we're suckers for those seniors. Needing a good groom, the shelter kindly clipped her down and gave her a good bath. Sadly, this ended up displaying her extreme emaciation, and sores left over from far too many ticks. After a good check up at the vet, we took her home and let her relax after her big day. She was shy and even trembled, so we loved her and gave her some yummy food and treats. She obviously hasn't been treated well through the years, as she jumped when touched unexpectedly, or even when she saw it coming. However, she's making headway and even giving hugs now! Alli is learning that it's fun to run around outside and bark at various things, and then come back inside to a cozy house with her new brothers and sisters. She has fallen head over heels for Preston, also a Great Pyrenees rescue, and it appears that she has quite the crush on him. In fact, as we've watched her relax and feel more at home, we are inclined to think she's not quite the 9 year old senior that we first suspected. In fact, she is probably a few years younger because she certainly doesn't act 9 years old. She's quite playful, flops around like a goofy puppy, and loves to play. So perhaps she's more along the lines of 6 or 7? We're not certain, but she's definitely not an old maid...she's got a TON of life and vibrance in her! Alli is now eating well and slowly putting on weight, and her coat is starting to grow, as well. It will take some time, but without doubt she will one day have a full and beautiful coat, true to the Great Pyrenees breed. We have learned that she loves to lie her head in your lap, and she's learned to enjoy hearing her name vs. running with fear when called. She is a strong girl that we are thrilled to have in rescue, and we look forward to watching her prosper. We know that she'd love to have a family of her own, so if anyone looks into those big brown eyes and sees the love in her heart, please let us know! She certainly deserves a loving and devoted family who will spoil her rotten. We look forward to giving her just that life! Updated Photos of Alli (October 1, 2009)
