Sophie!

*Update!! 10/5/08

Miss Sophie is doing great!  She's recovering well from her surgery and came through with flying colors!  She is happy and ready to play, although she has to wait a while for that...which is not her preference.  ;0)  She will go for her check up this week, so we'll see what the doctor says.  If all continues to well, she'll be ready for adoption at the end of October (6 weeks from her surgery date).

Meet the treasured Miss Sophie, a Great Pyrenees puppy that has gone through tough times, yet fortunately ended up in the hands of a kind family. Sophie, 4 months old, was found at an abandoned farm, emaciated, hot, thirsty, hungry, with a large abscess on her nose.  She was in pitiful, heart wrenching shape, but found comfort in a cool house with love all around when her foster family offered to take her in and nurse her back to health.

Sophie only weighed 26lbs and was far underweight...she was exhausted and weak. She was still warm hearted and loving, however, and thankful to her foster family for being so good to her.  She received good food, antibiotics for the abscess and a probable respiratory infection, a soft bed, and before long began smiling and playing.

Sophie is recuperating well, and her belly is now full everyday.  She is utterly irresistible with her too short of a snout and her contrasting underbite, and nothing is cuter than the way she grins when she is happy. She has a blonde haired, little girl who is exposing her to the better things in life, a Jack Russell buddy to play with, and lots of hugs and kisses.  Now, the only thing she needs is a major surgery for her Cleft Palate....

Sophie has a large hole in the roof of her mouth, better known as a Cleft Palate, that will require surgery by a specialist in order to close it properly.  Without closing the hole she could aspirate, she could have difficulty with breathing, she won't be able to eat correctly, and she could easily die.  With the surgery, she can grow from a 4 month old puppy into a beautiful, regal, adult Great Pyrenees, living a long, happy life and giving her unconditional love to a forever family.  Sophie deserves this...she deserves to live a full life, forgetting the abandonment, the fear, and the struggling she's faced in her life as a baby.  We want to give this to Sophie.

Sophie will see the surgeon on the 7th for evaluation and to prepare her for the necessary procedure.  So far they've told us her surgery will cost between $1000 - $2000.  We feel this is a small price to pay for a lifetime of love.

We are committed to providing this darling girl with the medical care she needs, but we do need your help.  If you would like to donate to Sophie's care we would appreciate your graciousness more than you'll ever know.  We would love, as well, for you to be a part of the progression as she undergoes the surgery and recovers, eventually moving on to an adoptive family, and we're happy to provide you with updates.  I know Sophie would be grateful to your kindness and generosity, too.  Even a small prayer for this fabulous little girl would mean the world to us.

Sophie has already touched many people with her innocence and affection.  We want her to continue to do this throughout her life, for without question, it's simply too precious to lose.
