Wilma!

Wilma is a beautiful, senior Great Pyrenees who was at a high kill shelter with no chance for adoption.  At 10+ years of age, she had apparently lived a traumatized life.  She walked with difficulty and drug her front foot, obviously felt weak and ill, and she was only 58lbs.  Despite it all, she still pawed you for petting.

After picking her up, we immediately went to the vet.  An examination showed she had bad hips, a bad front right shoulder, her right wrist was painful, and her left shoulder had radial nerve damage that caused her to shoulder to drop, the leg to stay straight, and her to drag the foot.  Most likely she'd been hit by a car, which in turn caused her woes. Her coat was rough, she was thin, but the doctor said that he was amazed she handled herself so well and recovered to the extent that she did...she was a trooper without question.

Wilma came home and settled in nicely, receiving pain meds and some good food. She got a good rest, a lot of hugs, and her smile became apparent.  She knew things were better now.

Wilma gets along well with other animals and is enjoying a warm home, a soft bed and lots of affection.  She enjoys flopping around on the doggy futon, playing in the backyard with the younger dogs, and playing tag with her foster mommy.  She is bright and beautiful, happy and playful. She'll give a sly grin, and paw you with her straight front leg, then do the the puppy stance to the best of her ability. She is utterly fabulous, full of life and love.  We adore her with all our hearts and couldn't be happier for taking this little old lady into our rescue.  She's our little Granny Wilma.

Wilma will remain a sanctuary dog unless someone falls head over heels for her and wants to adopt her and provide her with the luxuries in life that she deserves.  If so, we'd be happy to let her go to a family that would adore her as much as we do.  If not, she'll stay in the sanctuary and live out her life back dancing on the futon and receiving belly rubs.
